A large part of my work is managing projects with limited resources. This project had a very small budget which we had to be super resourceful with since the storybook's content was being determined by the photography and not the copy. My first and still my proudest project was collaborating with the U.S. Social Impact team as print producer on Sesame Street Little Children Big Challenges: Incarceration multimedia resource kits; which included DVD, caregiver guide, children’s storybook and kit packaging. Through this work I learned that the number of children with an incarcerated parent has increased nearly 80% in the past 20 years. And that nearly 2.7 million children have a parent in state or federal prison, yet few resources exist to support young children and families coping with this life-changing circumstance. I was astounded by these statistics and felt truly fortunate to be part of a special team of people doing their small part to be part of the solution and making a difference.
